High School: The Difficult Journey into Adulthood

Being a teenager is difficult and attending high school makes that time even worse. Not only is there the pressure to maintain good grades, but there is also pressure to fit in and be like everybody else. Trying to fit in may cause one to fall into the temptations of drugs, alcohol, and sex. Fortunately, if one is able to survive high school it can teach one valuable life lessons. One of those lessons is being oneself and not following the crowd.

As stated in the opening paragraph, in high school there is a lot of pressure to be like everyone else. If one is able to resist that pressure, he or she will learn that it is okay to be him or herself, which is a lesson that is valuable in the adult world. Another life lesson that can be learned in high school is how to get along and work with others, which is critical in the work force. Conflicts between teenagers is common, but if one expects to be a successful adult, he or she has to learn how to resolve those conflicts.

Last, but certaintly not least high school prepares teenagers for the adult world. Whether one decides to go college, join the military, or enter the workforce, high school will be that stepping stone that gets him or her there if they are willing to put in the necessary effort. Success in real life is not just handed over on a silver platter unless your father is a famous hotel mogul and you are tall, thin and beautiful.

Success comes to people who earn it. Even Paris Hilton has to work at keeping her face in the spotlight. By starting in elementary school with good study habits, life can be much more stress free for todays high school student. If a high school student can remember that they are to learn first of all and then socialize after the work is done, they will go far.
