A child’s performance in school is affected (positively or negatively) by the support he or she gets from the parents. Parents have the ability to help their kids be their best in school. It is said that parents, not their teachers, are children’s primary educators. It is vital that parents give their children support and encouragement when they go through some academic and social challenges. It is hard for children to become a success in school without their parents support. Studies have shown that students who were not supported by their parents in school did not academically perform well.
Children need a special space where they can work. This place should be free of any distractions. As a parent, it will best if you can provide your kids with a work station where they can do all their school work. This can be at the dining table, bedroom or kitchen. The important things is the place must be free of any distractions that will get their attention off their homework. It should also be quiet, conformable and complete with school supplied needed. Parents should also continually check up on the student to see if the child needs help in homework or needs any encouragement.
Continue to motivate your child to become a success. If they feel that they are improving or are successful in one way or another, they will most likely do better the next time. Positive reinforcement is key to a child’s academic success.
Also, do not forget to set realistic expectations from your child. As a parent, it is important to know and assess your child’s skills. Know what they can do, and do not push them over the top. Do not expect or pressure them to get straight A’s when you know they are having a hard time with one class.
