Zen philosophy often states that the environment is much more powerful than ourselves. Whether you take this as truth, most people can agree that the environment is important, especially for productivity. Upon going to school, your child is learning the importance of being focused and productive. As a parent, you can support your child’s study habits by providing him or her with a good environment.

Remove Clutter
Clutter can be a distraction for parents and children alike. By having space, you can allow your child to breathe, work and make room for products that promote productivity.

Promote Productivity
Promote productivity with certain items. Decorate your child’s desk with a desk lamp, a clock, calculator and ruler. If your child is younger, find items that are colorful, fun to look at and made specifically for children. Consider throwing in the color green in your child’s productivity space. Green has been proven by researchers to improve reading ability. Consider blue to boost your child’s creativity. Many scientists have tested the effectiveness of classical music for children. Consider playing classical music in your child’s study. Remember, every person is different, so take the time to experiment and see what your child likes best.
Establish a Schedule
Create a realistic schedule that your child can respect. You may not want one that is too lenient or too strict.  Allow your child to have flexible free time and firm study hours in order to have the best of both worlds.

Eat Smart
When supporting your child’s creativity, understand that nutrition plays a major role. Implement foods, such as fish, soy, citrus, leafy greens and nuts into your child’s diet. These foods have been proven to boost brain power.

Set an Example
Parents are often times the best example for children. Even if you are not going to school, you can still practice principles of focus and productivity while reading a book or logging onto your computer.
